Located off the coast of Kien Giang Province, Phu Quoc Island is a destination for those who love sun, sea and wind. Phu Quoc Island is the largest island in Vietnam, with long beaches and many luxury resorts.

Upon coming to Phu Quoc, in addition to bathing in beautiful blue water, visitors can also tour the entire green island by motorcycles. They can drop in on pepper and rambutan gardens, pearl farms, or the Nha Thung fish sauce enterprise. Further destinations are Ganh Dau Cape, Tranh Stream and Dinh Cau night market to enjoy the delicacies.

Con Dao Island

Con Dao is still unspoiled, with simple tourist services.

Con Dao is rated as one of the 20 most mysterious islands in the world, according to Travel and Leisure in 2011.

Over 97 nautical miles from Vung Tau City in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, Con Dao can be accessed by visitors by plane or boat from Vung Tau.

The beaches around the island are beautiful, with light waves. Dam Trau is the island 's most beautiful beach, An Hai beach is the most quiet, and Dat Doc beach lies deep in the canyon.

Visitors to Con Dao also enjoy trekking in the primary forest of Ong Dung, going fishing and seeing sea turtles laying eggs.

This island is also the home to many revolutionary relics, such as the tiger cages and Hang Duong cemetery.

Ho Coc

Coming to Ho Coc, you can welcome the early dawn with fishermen and taste fresh fish and shrimp from their boats.

Ho Coc beach has two parts: One with large stones piled on each other, scattered across the coast, and the other which is a long beach with white, smooth sand.

At the 500m long flat beach, which is surrounded by forest, you can learn about the coastal rainforest or try fishing. There are grounds for camping amid the forest, where you can bike around the area

As a thriving coastal city in central Vietnam, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa Province) has the advantage of being a city with long beaches, hotels and restaurants of all classes, with many delicious and unique dishes.

There are many places to visit around Nha Trang. Hon Mun Island has pure water and gorgeous coral ecosystems, and is rated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as the top sea biodiversity area in Vietnam.

From Hon Tam Island, you can see the whole of Nha Trang City in the north and Cam Ranh peninsula in the south.

Ponagar tower is a perfect example of the ancient architecture of the Cham people, 2km from the city center to the north.

Doc Let

About 50km to the north of Nha Trang City lies Ninh Hoa Town, with its beach of white sand and blue sky.

On the road to Doc Let, you will pass the beautiful and quiet rice fields and also the vast salt fields. The sand here is white, the waves are gentle, the water pure and very salty.

Only 5km from Hoi An ancient town, 30km from Da Nang, Cua Dai’s long beach, white sand, medium waves, pure water and rows of poplars make this a great destination for a one day visit. After bathing in Cua Dai, you can return to Hoi An to discover the ancient town.

Located in the coastal city of Da Nang, My Khe beach, with its big waves, white sand and exciting activities is a favorite destination of both domestic and foreign tourists.

Lying in the dynamic city of Da Nang, from here you can visit many destinations, such as the 20km long Hai Van Pass, known as the most beautiful – and also the most dangerous – mountain pass in Vietnam.

Ngu Hanh Son, or the Marble Mount, is about 7km from My Khe, adjacent to the Non Nuoc resort. Ngu Hanh Son is the “five rock mountain”, featuring the five basic elements – metal, wood, fire, earth and water.

Summer entertainment along Da Nang coast

Cruising along the Han River at night or fishing on the rocks of Ngoc Islet off Hai Van Pass are becoming popular forms of summer entertainment in Da Nang.

The tour, which was introduced last year, is one of the latest tourism offerings to showcase the central city's diverse range of attractions.

Le Viet Nam, managing director of Hoang Long Yen tours, says visitors can cruise at night along the Han River or go fishing at night off the coast of the Son Tra peninsula.

"We design and decorate wooden boats from 10 to 30 seats with different options at night. They can even order a night party on board in summer. However, fishing tours can make the trip longer when we dock at rocks off the Son Tra peninsula coast or Ngoc islet near the Hai Van Pass," said Nam.

A fleet of wooden boats will cruise from Bach Dang wharf, carrying passengers under the Han, Thuan Phuoc, Rong and Tran Thi Ly bridges and back within 60 minutes.

All bridges crossing the Han River, which are illuminated by artistic LED lights, create a serene portrait of a city at night. Tourists can tour the award-winning Rong bridge in the shape of a dragon and witness it spit fire on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Visitors can also indulge in a night time seafood party or an onboard BBQ serenaded by a local guitar band.

Traveller Tran Thanh said the Son Tra peninsula is a favourite location for bike riders, featuring mountains with zigzagging roads up to nearly 700m above sea level in a cool of forest and jungles.

Thanh added his group often books summer bicycle tours in the area.

Meanwhile, another traveller Nguyen Van Tuan said he prefers venturing through the mountains in vintage jeeps. Luckily for him, tour operators in the central city offer a range of 1960's jeeps for the more avid adventurers.

"We design a longer route for jeep tours so tourists can visit more than one destination in Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue city," said Le Van Hiep, a tour operator in Da Nang.

"There are many collectors of the US-made military jeeps in Hoi An and Da Nang. They also provide vehicles for tourists travelling a long road from Hue to Hoi An via Da Nang."

Situated north of the Son Tra peninsula, the Golden Sand is accessible by foot or cruise. It's an ideal location for adventurers wanting to camp for the night or stay in bungalows on the 10ha eco-tour site.

Trippers can venture to the top of the Son Tra peninsula by motorbike, bicycle or jeep. A dirt path, which connects the mountain to the Golden Sand, can be seen 300m above sea level.

"Golden Sand eco-tour is our favourite option. Visitors can engage in a range of activities including trekking, coracle paddling, kayaking and fishing," Nam said, adding the best time is between April and August.

A white and long beach, sandwiched between the rocks, is a rendezvous point for outdoor team building in the sun and exploring the coral reefs. A 50m zip line also allows tourists to make a 5m jump down to the way.

"Tourists can taste the fresh air and experience nature in the Son Tra Natural Reserve. The cool air year round provides a relaxing environment for trippers," said Huong Ly, a tour operator.

"The quiet, peaceful and untouched environment is good for summer holidays."

The fishing tour starts late at around 9pm and takes a 40-minute run to Hai Van Pass before docking at the Ngoc Islet.

"Budding fishermen can drop their line in untouched tropical coral reefs. A lighting system from the boat also helps to lure groupers and red snappers. They can even cook or grill fish on board," said Nguyen Trung Kien, a guide from the Son Tra tourism management board.

"The rock islet also preserves colourful coral reefs, where tourists can go snorkeling or diving with oxygen marks. The tour is only 500,000 VND (24 USD) per person for a group of 10."

Tran Thi Thu Trang, a tourist from Hanoi, said: "We enjoyed fun activities. We love the sea, the beach and hunting for snails and oysters on rocks."

"My group spent a night on bungalow. We had a camp-fire, took snails from the rocks that tasted delicious," tourist Ho Van Phien said. "I would definitely do it again".

The Hoang Lien National Park in the northwestern province of Lao Cai was re-opened to visitors on April 1 after a temporary close from January 1 due to high risk of fire.

The park’s director Nguyen Quang Vinh said however, visitors will be allowed to travel on only two routes, the Suoi Vang-Tinh Yeu Fall and the hiking track from Tram Ton to the peak of Fansipan Mountain.

The number of visitors is limited to 20 per group on the Suoi Vang-Tinh Yeu tour, while a maximum of 100 climbers can climb the Fansipan each day.

The 3,143m Fansipan is located at the heart of Hoang Lien National Park. It is the highest in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and dubbed the “Roof of Indochina”.

Over the past three months, several major fires broke out in the park, destroying hundreds of hectares of natural forest

Hoang Lien National Park covers the communes of San Sa Ho, Lao Chai, Ta Van and Ban Ho in Sa Pa District, as well as part of Than Uyen District in Lai Chau Province.

The 30,000-ha park was recognised by the ASEAN Secretariat as a regional heritage site in 2006.

It also includes a buffer zone of 38,724ha bordering some communes in the three districts of Van Ban, Than Uyen and Phong Tho in Lai Chau Province.
